Terry Richardson Inspiration & Experimental Photographs

Idea for Final Project

Terrence "Terry" Richardson (born August 14, 1965) is an American fashion and portrait photographer who has shot advertising campaigns for Marc Jacobs, Aldo, Supreme, Sisley, Tom Ford, and Yves Saint Laurent among others. He has also done work for magazines such as Rolling Stone, GQ, Vogue, Vanity Fair, Harper's Bazaar, I-D, and Vice. Richardson’s photography is known to be very controversial. His style examines celebrities to explore the themes of nudity and fashion, as well as bringing out the comedic sides of a celebrity by posing with comical facial expressions and gestures. I have decided to experiment with his style as the simplicity of his photographs are fascinating. The rules of third, along with the plain white background helps to establish his portraiture style which explores his controversial themes.

Here are my experimental photographs which have replicated Terry Richardson's signature style:

I believe that this idea can be a fascinating final project as it explores the comical side of our inner self. It brings out the beauty and positivity inside of us which sends a positive message to the viewers. However, the downside to this project is that it is too simple. Simplicity can be a good concept but within Richardson's style, you will need the main subject of the photograph to be posing nude or something controversial and that is something I cannot achieve.
